Cyber security warning to business owners. If your business is online, please check your DNS Security, and if you are thinking….WTF is DNS? Then we recommend a quick read of this.
DNS is a critical component of online services that has flown under the radar, and you are going to be hearing more about it in the future because it’s a key target for criminal misuse. Here is what the AIC said in their Research Report: “The DNS is fundamental to the functioning of the internet, and its potential for misuse is one of the most important legal and regulatory challenges facing internet governance in the years ahead.”
DNS is the forgotten part of being online. Everyone knows about website hosting and domains; well, DNS is the bit in-between. DNS is the Domain Name System. If ‘web hosting’ is your house and your ‘domain’ is your street address, then ‘DNS’ is the phonebook. It tells your web browser where on the internet to find you. The reason it is important is that if someone hacks your DNS, they can send both you and your customers to the wrong house.. i.e. malicious websites that steal funds or attempt to gain access to your devices. This affects both you and your customers.
Lately, we have found many businesses coming to us who are utilising ‘free’ or insecure DNS providers without knowing. This generally comes from cost-saving measures from ‘cheap’ website hosts. At Hi Tech Creative, all of our clients benefit from our commitment to using one of the world's leading DNS Platforms in Microsoft Azure. Furthermore, our technicians are experienced in the configuration of DNS records and DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC). We have made a commitment as a premium provider of online services to only provide enterprise-grade DNS for all of our clients.
If you would like to know more about this or determine if your business is at risk just contact us and we would be happy to provide a free check for you. Quality DNS is not expensive. We charge $11 per month for fully managed, hands-off Premium DNS Hosting. Last year, 94,000 cybercrime reports were logged, up 23% on the previous year, with an average cost to the business ranging from $46,000-$97,000. It’s an easy solution, but we need businesses to be aware of the risks and spread the word.
Last week our team launched a new website for Regan Air Conditioning. (www.facebook.com/reganrefrigeration/) We would like to thank Bec, Nathan and the whole team for a great and enjoyable project. A super smooth and easy process from start to finish.

In fact, Blake, our manager, is the fourth generation in his family to have worked in the print and design industry.
Here is a beautiful coffee table book that we were proud to bring to life for an employee of one of our clients. This had been a dream of theirs for several years, but the process of setting out and printing a book of this scale and quality was beyond your average eBook.
We were there for the entire design process, from concept art to print. Our team designed and developed 64 pages in total, including cover design, typesetting, and layout, plus image research and licensing. The artwork was produced to a professional standard in Adobe InDesign, with design files and print-ready artwork provided for future editions or additional print runs. ... See MoreSee Less

Another cracking website was launched for our friends at CT Partners. CT Partners is the largest and most influential independently owned travel buying network in Australia, comprising of 30 travel firms with over 2 Billion in turnover per year.
The brief for this website was different in that the client already had an established reputation and footprint in their industry. The goal was a new website that reflected the quality of their members. The old website was due for a refresh, and we took the opportunity to roll out upgrades to their mobile optimisation and SEO.
Our team also developed a clever solution to allow the CT Partners admin team to manage their member listings. The team at Hi Tech Creative built a custom system for their team to be able to quickly add and remove new members though a simple interface. This means they don't have to worry about designing or building any pages. All they have to do is full out the information and a custom webpage for their new member is instantly created and live on the internet.
The result is a faster, better-looking, and more performative website that lifts the standards and values of the CT Partners brand. Aside from that, the improvements that a modern website upgrade brings should not be discounted. Even though search engine ranking was not the number 1 goal for this project, the updated website has still seen a 48% increase in traffic and a 45% increase in impressions in the last 6 months. Considering this in light of what a generally tough economic environment is for nonessential spending, this is even more impressive.
This is one good example of how upgrading your website can bring significant improvements. Google rankings are dynamic and based on your competition. If you stay still and do not work on your website, then those who do put in the time reap the rewards. In the current era where DIY websites are more popular, this often presents a greater growth potential, as most DIY websites are poorly optimised or, in some cases, just not cut out for superior search engine performance.
Here’s a bit of a behind the scenes of just some of the reporting we provide for our clients on the OVA Care plan. This isn’t the best report we could have chosen but rather a fairly typically report. This isn’t a new website either with ‘early day’ or ‘hockey stick growth’ but a website that is already established at the top of it’s target market. Large gain percentages are usually harder here.
Every 6 months our team performs an SEO audit of the website making changes as required at no additional cost. We follow up with a custom digital report and provide one on one consultations with our clients to give them an overview and outlook on the next 6 months. During this time we make recommendations regarding potential avenues of growth that we see.
We look at the latest core vitals criteria, we run our reports and this keeps our clients website up to date with the fundamental requirements of a well ranked website. We do this because this, along with other page experience aspects, aligns with what Googles core ranking systems seek to reward.
Most businesses would be having a good year if they got 10-20% increase in traffic. Here this client has achieved 117.9% increase in new users in half that time (6 months) totally organically.
Most established businesses have a marketing/SEO budget of $500-$10,000 per month. That doesn’t count the website costs. Compare this to the monthly subscription fee for our OVA Care Plan: With hosting, domain, website build included, security, backups and free updates from our team, its $145 per month. There is a great deal of unscrupulous behaviour in the SEO industry, which is important to be aware of. In the industry, we call this 'Black Hat SEO'. These are tactics that seek to 'cheat' Google's search engine algorithm. If you are employing these tactics on your website, you may end up with your website removed from Google as a result.
We would like to help educate our clients on these tactics via a series of posts. Each post will focus on a different tactic. All this will be summarised in full on our blog.
Tactic Number 1: Keyword Stuffing An SEO copywriter walks into a bar, pub, club, hotel, restaurant, public house, Irish, bartender, drinks, beer, wine, liquor, nightlife, bars near me, cheap drinks...." I think you get the idea. This is keyword stuffing. We will quote directly from Google's official documentation: "Keyword stuffing refers to the practice of filling a web page with keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate rankings in Google Search results. Often these keywords appear in a list or group, unnaturally, or out of context. Examples of keyword stuffing include Lists of phone numbers without substantial added value. Blocks of text that list cities and regions that a web page is trying to rank for. Repeating the same words or phrases so often that it sounds unnatural. Yes, keywords are vital to your genuine SEO and there are legitimate ways to incorporate important keywords into your website, through effective content. Sequential keywords are not necessarily a problem on their own, but they must be done naturally and correctly. If you manage your own website content then you can familiarise yourself on the best practices by reading Google's developer website. Otherwise, approach your website management company and question if your content is correctly structured for ideal SEO. If you are looking to build a new website, we recommend that you use a respectable, professional copywriter and a website development company you trust, with a track record of good and proper practices.
Our top tips for when you are sourcing your website development company and copywriter: • Ask to see other websites they have built or written content for • Educate yourself about what your target audience is looking for • Ask questions and compare their answer's to Google's advice • Make sure the company is not asking you to put a disproportionate amount of time or money into SEO compared to your other business areas
